Welcome to the Malaysian Journal of Genetics

Malaysian Journal of Genetics is an official academic publication of Persatuan Genetik Malaysia. Malaysian Journal of Genetics is an open-access journal for academicians and researchers to contribute and share their ideas and knowledge related to genetics field. The journal covers all areas of genetics and evolution, relating to all the domains of life, from humans to plants, livestock and other model organisms including molecular genetics and molecular evolution. Malaysian Journal of Genetics also publishes Review and Commentary (current issues of interest to geneticists). Malaysian Journal of Genetics will be publishing articles once a year (December Issue) from 2021 onwards.

Selection of articles or contributions to be considered for publication in the Malaysian Journal of Genetics will reviewed by at least two qualified reviewers. As a result of the review process, a manuscript may be accepted as such, may require minor revision or major revision, or rejected.

 

INDEXING

MJG bearing an e-ISSN: 2811-3594 and is currently indexed by MyJurnal, Directory of Open Access scholarly Resources (ROAD), and Google Scholar.

 

ARTICLE PROCESSING CHARGES (APC)

MJG does not incur any article processing charges for the accepted papers. It’s free of charge to publish with MJG.

 

JOURNAL POLICY

Papers are accepted on the understanding that they have not been and will not be published elsewhere. Authors are encouraged to check their papers for plagiarism before submission. It is because any paper with more than 30% plagiarism (based on Turnitin) will be immediately rejected without an editorial/peer-review process. MJG applies a double-blind review process. Each paper is assessed by the editor and, if it is judged suitable for this publication, it is then sent to at least two independent referees for peer review. Based on their recommendations, the editor then decides whether the paper should be accepted in its current form, revised or rejected. Papers on acceptance become the copyright of the journal. However, the authors retain publishing rights with respect to Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.

 

OPEN ACCESS STATEMENT

All published papers are OPEN ACCESS and free to read/download by anyone from the world through MJG website.

GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS

Original papers can be submitted as full-length manuscripts or as short communications. Review articles on current subjects are also invited.

All submissions are to be written in the English language and sent to the Editorial Office or the Managing Editor (aishahnh@uitm.edu.my) via electronic mail as an attachment accompanied by a cover letter stating that the work has not been published or under consideration for publication elsewhere. All text including tables and figures should be submitted as a single Word file.

​The article’s body should contain the following elements: –

1. 1. Abstract (not more than 250 words)
   2. Introduction
   3. Methods
   4. Results and Discussion (Tables and Figures should follow MJG guidelines in the template)
   5. Conclusion
   6. Acknowledgement (if applicable)
   7. References (follow APA format style and avoid internet-based references).

COPYRIGHT TRANSFER

Articles published in the MJG are copyrighted. Authors should submit a statement that their manuscript has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. Authors are also required to submit a signed copyright transfer agreement after the acceptance of their manuscripts for publication.

 

CONFLICT OF INTEREST

The authors should declare that there is no conflict of interest regarding the publication of their manuscripts.

 

ETHICAL ISSUES

Manuscripts involving human or animal subjects must be approved by the Ethical Committee or the equivalent Review Board of the Institution. This statement must be included in the ‘Materials and Methods’ section of the manuscript.

ETHICS POLICY

This is the statement of ethics for MJG published by Persatuan Genetik Malaysia. MJG adheres to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) standards on publication ethics. It covers code of ethics for chief editor, editorial board members, reviewers and authors.

 

DUTIES OF AUTHORS

1. To ensure only new and original work is submitted for editorial evaluation. If the authors have used any literature/artwork, then it should be appropriately cited.
2. To ensure the article submitted to MJG is not under review or simultaneously submitted to other journal for evaluation. Authors are only allowed to submit the article after formal rejection letter issued from MJG or authors write to withdraw the article any time before the production process begins.
3. To do necessary corrections as commented by chief editor, editors, reviewers or copyeditors to ensure a smooth publication process. Authors also responsible to inform Chief Editor if there is any inaccuracy of data in the published work. If a significant error needs to be amended, then a separate corrigendum will be published to highlight the changes.
4. To make sure any content of the manuscript does not violate any proprietary or personal rights of others (including, without limitation, any copyrights or privacy rights.
5. To declare and acknowledge any possible conflict of interest or funding bodies that involved in the research.

 

DUTIES OF REVIEWERS

1. To disclose any conflict of interest regarding the assigned manuscript.
2. To refuse to review any submission due to conflict of interest or inadequate of expertise.
3. To carry out review process fairly, rationally and professionally.
4. To report any ethical misconduct while reviewing (plagiarism) to the Chief Editor for further action.
5. To not contact the authors or any related parties to regarding any comments on the assigned manuscript.
6. To ensure the originality of manuscript and be alert on plagiarism or redundant publication.
7. To adhere to the given due date for reviewing process and request for extension from Chief Editor if the due date cannot be met.

 

DUTIES OF EDITORIAL BOARD MEMBERS

1. To assess the manuscripts for its content and language proficiency that assigned by Chief Editor.
2. To appoint potential reviewers for the manuscripts that screened by Chief Editor and Editors.
3. To re-evaluate the corrections that made by authors.
4. To provide recommendation in terms of quality and suitability of manuscripts in accordance with MJG Aim and Scope.
5. To promote the visibility of MJG in the appropriate platforms such as conferences, symposiums and workshops.

 

DUTIES OF CHIEF EDITOR

1. To evaluate the suitability of manuscripts in terms of intellectual content and merit.
2. To ensure the confidentiality of manuscripts and not disclose to third parties other than PGM_JGR editorial board members.
3. To make final decision on the acceptance/rejection of the manuscripts.
4. To engage with International editors and reviewers to uplift the quality of editorial process.
5. To promote the visibility of MJG in the appropriate platforms such as conferences, symposiums and workshops.

 

CONFLICT OF INTEREST

A statement on the conflict of interest shall be included in the manuscript either as “Conflict of Interest” or at “Acknowledgement” section if authors receive any technical or financial support for the influence of the reported results in the manuscript.

 

AUTHORSHIP CONTRIBUTION

Corresponding author must ensure all the listed authors have significant contribution to the intellectual part of the research paper. Others who have participated on certain substantive part of research work should be acknowledged in the “Acknowledgement” section. All co-authors must read and approve the final version of the manuscript before submission.
